Ipswich ‌native George Pinner, 38, has retired from hockey after a‍ distinguished⁤ career representing Great Britain⁢ and England. Pinner made 195 appearances and‌ participated in the 2016 Olympic Games.⁢ He also⁣ secured two Commonwealth⁢ Games ‌bronze medals ⁢in 2014 and ⁤2018.

Pinner initially stepped back from international play in 2021 to concentrate on domestic hockey, including seven English⁤ Hockey League titles, three⁢ with Old Georgians. Now, he says he ⁤is ready to prioritize family life.

Pinner reflected on his career, emphasizing the camaraderie and shared ‌experiences with teammates.⁢ He noted the speed​ with which his playing days passed, saying that he is ⁢only now ‌fully appreciating his accomplishments.

⁣ “The​ teammates that become very close friends, the celebrations ⁤afterwards, the ‌laughs in the changing rooms. Those are the things that I will miss ⁤the most,” he said.

‌ ‍ “It’s only now that I look and think, ‘wow, did I really⁣ experience all of ‍that?’ If you told me at 14 [years old] that I’d go ​on to achieve even a quarter of that [my accomplishments], I’d be delighted,” pinner said.
