Georgia Grandfather Dies Saving Granddaughters From Falling Tree Limb

A 77-year-old Georgia grandfather, Manuel Pinzon, died Wednesday after a tree limb fell on him while he was protecting his twin granddaughters in thier backyard. Pinzon’s quick actions saved the eight-year-old girls from serious harm, according to his son-in-law, Jason Krause.
The incident occurred at Pinzon’s Dacula, Georgia, home. The twins, Isabella and Gabi, were exploring the woods behind the house with Pinzon and his sister when they spotted a baby deer. After telling their grandfather, they heard a cracking sound. Krause said Pinzon pushed the girls out of harm’s way just as the limb fell.

Krause estimated the limb weighed 65 to 75 pounds and fell from 60 feet. Pinzon began bleeding and was rushed to the hospital, where he died shortly after arrival. the twins, who were covered in blood and in shock, will receive trauma counseling.Pinzon was a major influence in their lives, Krause noted.
“He sacrificed his life to save my two twins from a tree,” Krause said. “They got shoved out of the way. He got them out of the way, but took the full hit of a fallen limb on his head, and he didn’t make it.”
Krause described Pinzon as a loving family man who enjoyed the outdoors and was the greatest man he knew. He added that one of his daughters texted Pinzon after he passed, saying, “You died for me.”
Pinzon, who would have turned 78 next month, is survived by his wife of 50 years, two daughters, and five grandchildren. He is being remembered as a hero for his selfless act of bravery and love.
