Trumpf had previously implemented cost-saving measures, including reduced working hours and salaries for around 500 employees last year.
Industry-Wide Challenges
The mechanical engineering sector is currently grappling with rising expenses and a decrease in both demand and investment. Trumpf, a company with a history dating back to 1923, is not immune to these pressures.
“Due to the associated declines of order, we adapt our structures throughout the trump card,” a company spokesman said. “With the structural adjustments we want to put up with the structural adjustments robust and future -proof.”
Decline in Orders Leads to Action
Trumpf Group, which employs over 19,000 people worldwide, reported a significant drop in sales and incoming orders at the end of the 2023/2024 financial year, on June 30, 2024. Company officials anticipated continued difficulties in the current financial year.
Nicola Leibinger-Kammüller, Trumpf’s CEO, stated that the company expected “the persistently weak demand will also shape the coming months of the current financial year.”
Negotiations Underway
The company aims to implement the job reductions in a socially responsible manner and has begun discussions with the works council. Additionally, nearly 1,400 employees are currently forgoing a portion of their salaries.
Earlier in the year, Trumpf temporarily introduced short-time work at a location in Switzerland.
