Germany advanced to the semi-finals of the Davis Cup by defeating Canada 2-0 in Malaga. Jan-Lennard Struff won the deciding match against Denis Shapovalov, scoring 4-6, 7-5, 7-6(5). This victory marked Germany’s first semi-final appearance since 2021.
Before Struff’s match, Daniel Altmaier won against Gabriel Diallo with a score of 7-6(5), 6-4. Altmaier’s win set the tone for Germany’s success in the quarter-finals.
Struff praised Shapovalov’s performance, noting his strong serves and pace. “Denis was playing amazing. It was a very tough match,” Struff said. He expressed relief at securing the victory after a challenging tie-break.

Germany will face the Netherlands in the semi-finals on Friday. Struff anticipates a competitive match, acknowledging the rivalry and the challenge posed by the Dutch team.
German team captain Michael Kohlmann expressed satisfaction with the team’s progress. He highlighted the significance of Altmaier’s opening win in securing the overall victory against Canada.
