Last week, Rubio De La Rosa scored an average of 29 points per game. He shot 73.1% from the field (19 of 26), 61.1% from three-point range (11 of 18), and 90% from the free-throw line (9 of 10).
In a standout performance against Stony Brook, he achieved a career-high of 37 points, hitting 9 of 13 shots from three-point range. This performance set a Levien Gym record for three-pointers and tied the record for most points scored. He also led his team with 21 points, three assists, three steals, and one block in the game against LIU.
In addition to the Oscar Robertson honor, Rubio De La Rosa received accolades as the Ivy League Player of the Week, ESPN Dick Vitale National Player of the Week, and CollegeInsider.com Lou Henson National Player of the Week. Columbia has started the season with an 8-0 record, marking its best start since 1969 and holding the longest winning streak in the country.
The U.S. Basketball Writers Association continues its national player of the week program this season, which is linked to the Oscar Robertson Trophy since 2009-10. Each Tuesday, board members select five players from the 31 Division I conferences who were named player of the week on the previous Monday.
The USBWA has existed since 1956 and, with around 800 members, is a significant organization in college basketball and has selected an All-America team since the 1956-57 season.
