Apple Vision Pro 2: Expected Release and Upgrades

The second-generation version of the Apple Vision Pro MR (mixed reality) headset is expected to be released in the second half of next year.

Ming-Chi Kuo, an Apple analyst from Taiwan’s TF International Securities, predicted in a report released on the 27th (local time) that “Vision Pro 2 will enter mass production in the second half of next year.”

What is Apple Vision Pro?

Vision Pro is an MR headset released by Apple in February. Most of the functions of a handheld smartphone have been transferred to a head-worn device, making it possible to create 3D images. Apple calls this device a new “space computer.”

Upgrades in Vision Pro 2

Ming-Chi Kuo, who predicts the product launch based on Apple’s supply chain analysis, explained: “The most important feature of the Vision Pro 2 is that it is equipped with the M5 chipset.”

The M5 chipset is Apple’s next-generation chipset for MacBooks that will be released next year and is expected to have significantly better performance than the M2 currently installed in the Vision Pro. In the case of the M4 chipset launched this year, the CPU function (central processing unit) would be improved by 50% compared to the M2, and GPU (graphics processing unit) performance would be four times higher. By installing the M5, the Vision Pro 2 is expected to significantly improve computing performance, including being equipped with Apple Intelligence, Apple’s AI (artificial intelligence) system.

No Significant Design Changes

However, analyst Mingchi Kuo predicted: “Unlike the internal specifications that will be updated, the overall design and other hardware components will not change significantly.” He added, “This could help Apple manage manufacturing costs,” and noted that the Vision Pro 2’s pricing won’t be significantly different from the previous product.

Potential for Improved Experience

However, analyst Mingchi Kuo predicted: “If text-to-video features like Sora, OpenAI’s video AI model, were installed, the Vision Pro experience could be significantly improved.”

It was reported that only around 100,000 units of the Vision Pro were delivered until July after its launch in February due to its high price of $3,499 (around 4.58 million won in Korean currency). This is significantly lower than market forecasts which predicted sales of between 300,000 and 400,000 units this year.
