Get Ready for the Big Screen: Apple TV to Unlock Widescreen Projector Support by Year’s End
Apple Releases tvOS 18 with Enhanced Features for Apple TV 4K and Apple TV HD
Apple has started shipping tvOS 18 for Apple TV 4K and Apple TV HD, introducing several new features to enhance the viewing experience. One of the key updates is the ability to clearly reproduce spoken voices in video content.
Dialogue Boost and Subtitles
The new “Dialogue Boost” feature uses machine learning and computational audio to render speech even more clearly. Additionally, subtitles will now automatically appear at optimal times, such as when the sound is muted, when you rewind while watching, or when a show or movie is in a language different from your device’s.
Insights and New Screensavers
tvOS 18 also introduces an Insights feature that displays timely information about the actors, characters, and music appearing in all live-action films and shows on Apple TV+ in real time. Furthermore, new screensavers like Portrait will be added to the platform.
Home App Updates
The Home app has been updated with Guest Access in iOS 18, allowing users to give guests control of their keys, garage door, and security system. Users can also schedule individual or time-based access to their home with a smart lock and view guest activity history.
SharePlay and Spatial Audio
Guests visiting a home can now share control of the music playing on HomePod and HomePod mini using SharePlay and Apple Music. Additionally, spatial audio has been added to AirPlay, providing users with an immersive audio experience when streaming audio from their iPhone or iPad to HomePod or compatible third-party audio devices.
Future Updates
Apple has announced that tvOS 18 will support 21:9 aspect ratio for playing movies and shows on a projector by the end of this year.
