Ultra Acosta! Cosplay Event Breaks Records with 23,000 Participants
Hacosta Co., Ltd. hosted the highly anticipated “Ultra acosta!” cosplay event, a three-day extravaganza that took place from Friday, September 6th to Sunday, September 8th, 2024. The event saw an impressive 23,000 cosplayers and photographers come together to celebrate the world of cosplay.
A Celebration of Cosplay Culture
Ultra acosta! is an annual festival that brings together cosplayers and photographers from all over the country. This year’s event was held at Ikebukuro Sunshine City, which was transformed into a vibrant hub of creativity and self-expression.
A Night to Remember
The first day of the event, Friday, September 6th, saw the venue come alive with a nighttime photo session and exchange event that ran from 10pm to 3am. The cosplay dance entertainment festival “CDEF” was also held simultaneously, filling the venue with energy and excitement.
A Weekend of Fun and Creativity
On Saturday, September 7th, and Sunday, September 8th, the event expanded to include all the halls of Sunshine City, Sunshine Plaza, and the adjacent Higashi-Ikebukuro Central Park. Cosplayers and photographers from all over the country flocked to the venue, eager to be a part of the largest event of its kind.
Special Guests and Events
The “Opening Ceremony” was held at Fountain Plaza on Saturday, September 7th, and featured special guests including Toshima Ward Mayor Takagiwa Miyuki, Animate Holdings Co., Ltd. Executive Director Niwa Yasuhiro, and Sunshine City Co., Ltd. Managing Director Kawakami Hironobu. The ceremony also included appearances by the four Ikebukuro Cosplay PR Ambassadors Momoto Momo, Zumi, Chocora, and Suzura.
Cosplay Doujinshi Sale and Photo Sessions
A total of 218 groups, mainly cosplayers, exhibited at the cosplay doujinshi sale “Acosta! Marche”, selling merchandise and holding photo sessions. The event was a huge success, with many junior and senior high school students in attendance, eager to meet their favorite cosplayers and learn more about the world of cosplay.
A Record-Breaking Event
With fine weather throughout the three-day event, Ultra acosta! attracted a record-breaking 23,000 participants, surpassing last year’s attendance of 20,000. The number of participants in their teens was also significantly higher, with 2,500 attendees, up from 1,500 last year.

Acosta! will continue to bring the charm and fun of cosplay to all parts of the country, with upcoming events scheduled for Nagano Komaba Park on September 21st and 22nd, Ikebukuro Sunshine City, and the Osaka Dotonbori Cosplay Festival on September 28th and 29th.
