Get Ready for Thrills: Chuncheon’s International Leisure Competition Season 3-5 Kicks Off in the Second Half of the Year
[춘천시 세계타임즈=김민석 기자] The 2024 Chuncheon International Leisure Competition and Citizen Participation Program, hosted by the Chuncheon Leisure and Taekwondo Organizing Committee (hereinafter referred to as the Organizing Committee), will be held from September 21 to October 27 in the Chuncheon Songam Sports Town area. This competition will feature various leisure competitions and citizen participation programs against the backdrop of Chuncheon’s beautiful nature. In particular, various fall programs have been planned for the second half of the year in which not only leisure competition participants who visit Chuncheon but also citizens can participate.
The 2024 Chuncheon International Leisure Competition will be held throughout the year in five seasons. Season 3 will feature the ‘Chuncheon Skyrace Trail Running Competition’ (September 21-22), which starts at Elysian Gangchon Resort and runs 11km and 24km along Gangchon’s mountains. Season 4 will feature the ‘5th National King Canoe Race Competition’ (October 12) and ‘X-Play Chuncheon’, which will be held as an X-Games Cultural Festival at Songam Sports Town (October 19-20). ‘X-Play Chuncheon’ plans to grow into a competition unique to Chuncheon by combining skateboarding, BMX freestyle, and inline aggressive, which the organizing committee has developed since 2010, with 3-on-3 basketball and DJing, so that people can enjoy street culture in one place. In addition, the ‘2nd National BMX Freestyle Championships’ and ‘1st Chuncheon International BMX Freestyle Cup’, which are registered as points competitions by the World Cycling Federation, will be held. In this way, the organizing committee plans to focus on presenting international competitions and events at Songam Sports Town, which has been cultivating X-Games events adopted as official Olympic events for 15 years. The final Season 5 competitions will be the ‘3rd Campagnolo Gran Fondo’ (October 20) and the ‘3rd Leisure Dream Cup BMX Racing’ (October 27), which will decorate the finale of the 2024 Chuncheon International Leisure Games.
In order for the leisure competition to not be centered on the athletes, but for citizens to experience light leisure activities, three types of “citizen participation programs” are operated. In particular, this program was planned with the theme of autumn colors and healing, including canoeing, yoga, and trekking programs.
‘This Fall’ is a yoga pop-up class held in a cafe beautifully filled with the mountains, lakes, forests, and sky of Chuncheon. After the yoga class, participants will receive a special set menu unique to each cafe. (Every Saturday from September 21 to October 12, starting at 4:30 PM)
Also, ‘FALL in Canoe’ is a wooden canoe experience where you can enjoy the sunrise (6:30~7:30), sunset (17:00~18:00), and starlight (19:00~20:00) in the area around Soyang Bridge 2 on the first and second Saturdays of October. We have prepared a special time so that you can enjoy canoeing, Chuncheon’s representative leisure tourism product, up close within the citizens’ living area.
Lastly, the citizen participation program ‘Slow Leisure 3 Challenge’ will operate a leisure tourism program that includes biking, canoeing, and walking around Bungeo Island on the weekend of October 19th and 20th. It will offer a unique leisure tourism program unique to Chuncheon where you can fully experience autumn at your own leisure.
The organizing committee’s leisure business division vice chairman, Cho Young-taek, said, “This Chuncheon International Leisure Competition was planned and expanded so that citizens can enjoy and heal in nature beyond the competition.
