Airport·Jama: Three-runway System 10-Kilometer International Race

To celebrate the completion of the airport’s three-runway system at the end of the year, the “Airport·Jama: Three-runway System 10-Kilometer International Race” will be held on November 17. This is also the first event since the “Standard Chartered ’98” in 1998. After the “New Airport Marathon”, a long-distance running competition will be held on the airport runway again after 26 years. Participants will have the opportunity to witness the takeoff and landing of aircraft up close.

Race Categories and Registration

The Three-Kilometer International Race consists of “10-Kilometer Race”, “5-Kilometer Race”, “3-Kilometer Race” and “10-Kilometer Wheelchair Race”. The “Women’s Elite 10-Kilometer International Race” will be held at the same venue. The starting point and end point of the event are the middle runway of the airport, which is within the restricted area of the airport. After registering at AsiaWorld-Expo and completing security check, runners will directly take a special car arranged by the organizer to go to and from the track.

The total number of places for the event is about 12,000. “Qualified runners”, runners who have participated in the “Standard Chartered ’98 New Airport Marathon” and airport employees can have priority to register on September 17th and 18th; public registration will be drawn by lottery on September 23rd. It officially starts at 2 p.m.

Event Significance and Inclusivity

Guan Qi, chairman of Tianjin Federation, said: “The ‘Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon’ has rooted long-distance running in the hearts of many Hong Kong people. Among the previous events, the ’10-kilometer race’ is the most popular category, so this special commemorative edition The event is a very rare way for citizens who love running to experience the fun of running on the airport runway. This competition is also a rare opportunity for athletes to compete on flat ground on the airport runway, allowing them to break through and create new achievements. The event also promotes diversity and inclusion, with five-kilometer, three-kilometer and wheelchair races available for people of different physical abilities to participate.”

Historical Significance of the Event

The “Standard Chartered ’98 New Airport Marathon” held in 1998 was held at the then newly completed Hong Kong International Airport in Chek Lap Kok, witnessing the launch of one of the largest infrastructure projects in Hong Kong’s history. The race started from Tsing Ma Bridge and ended at the airport runway, attracting more than 6,000 runners.
