It’s time for another season of Apex Legends. Called From the Rift, the 23rd season of Respawn’s popular battle royale game could debut as early as today. With that in mind, what’s new? Is there anything you need to know? What are the big news and additions this season? There are some exciting plans, but undoubtedly the biggest and most promising is a major overhaul of Apex Legends veteran, a character that has been around since day one: Lifeline. Yes, the Support Combat Medic is getting an overhaul in an effort to bring it in line with its competitors, and as part of a recent developer roundtable, Respawn told us what that means.
Lifeline 2.0
As the other characters become more powerful, Lifeline feels lacking, which is why she gains some new abilities. First, her passive will now allow her to maneuver around the map more easily, all while holding on to her DOC droid companion and being able to glide using it. Later, his tactics were also changed to be less rigid, meaning Lifeline can select and target an ally and keep track of the OCD and heal it continuously, and Lifeline can change the targeted ally at any time. Ultimately, its final ability will be to forgo the care package system and instead revolve around the 360-degree Halo Shield system that the DOC can generate. This will protect allies from projectile damage while allowing nearby players to heal faster.
These changes will stack and will also be enhanced by some support radius changes, with the entire class now boasting two new passive perks. The first is Heal Expert, which makes the support character move faster while healing. The second is Revive Speed, which, as you might imagine, allows supports to revive allies faster and also provides activated allies with better health regeneration for a short period of time.
Lifeline will also see some visual changes, but Respawn promises they’ll explain the changes in more depth as the season continues.
Relic of the Rift
The next big change is the addition of Rift Relics, hence the name of the season. These are powerful items that pay homage to the lore of Apex Legends and Titanfall and can be found in cosmic portals located around each map. You can find deadly weapons, like Titanfall’s EPG-1 rocket launcher, with unlimited ammo, or jump upgrades and weapons with massive impact, including a weapon called Lifesteal that lets you heal some of the damage done to enemies. Upgrade kits can also be found here, these offers “Ability to distort reality”whether it’s going back in time or ignoring the clutches of death.
Velociraptor claw
In addition to a new battle pass containing tons of new cosmetics, the latest addition to Season 23: From the Rift is the new universal melee weapon Raptor’s Claw. This is a cosmetic that allows players to use a cutting knife instead of the typical melee abilities offered by each character. It will have several variants and will be available for purchase from the Void Mercenaries Store for a short time at launch before moving to the Mythic Store.
With Apex Legends: From the Rift launching today, be sure to experience everything in Respawn’s battle royale for yourself.
