Huanglong’s Free Sports Night School Returns: Registration Starts September 15

Following the immense popularity of Huanglong’s youth night school summer class, which sold out in just 16 minutes, the autumn class is set to begin. This autumn night school sports charity class is a collaborative effort between Huanglong Sports Center and Zhejiang Provincial Cultural Center.

The program boasts an impressive array of sports courses, covering eight disciplines: swimming, tennis, badminton, squash, archery, Wing Chun, Pilates, and women’s self-defense. A total of 20 classes will be offered, catering primarily to individuals aged 18 to 40. Each class will meet twice a week, with a total of eight classes spanning four weeks. Interested citizens can register through the “Zheli Cultural Circle” WeChat applet starting September 15, with admission determined by random lottery.

The night school’s popularity can be attributed to its cost-effectiveness. As one netizen noted, “It’s not that we can’t afford midnight snacks, but night schools offer better value for money.”

Tennis classes, for instance, offer an excellent deal. With four classes available, each accommodating 10 students, the tuition fee for one-to-many tennis classes is significantly lower than usual, typically ranging from 150 to 180 yuan per class. According to Huanglong tennis coach Yi Nengneng, “Tennis has gained immense popularity in recent years, especially after Zheng Qinwen’s Olympic championship win.” Through the eight classes, students can master the basic rules of the game, as well as fundamental forehand and backhand shots and underhand serves.

The quality of the free courses is also noteworthy. Huanglong swimming coach Xu Chao explained that the night school will offer three breaststroke classes, as breaststroke is beginner-friendly. Even those with no prior knowledge can master it after completing the eight classes. “If you study hard in every class, it’s not a problem to swim 25 to 50 meters by the end of the course.” Xu Chao emphasized that students will be tested and divided into classes according to their basic knowledge to ensure a smooth teaching progress, allowing every student to learn to swim with confidence.

Xu Chao attributed the surge in swimming enthusiasm to the outstanding performance of Zhejiang athletes in the Paris Olympics. “In the past, the number of applicants for paid training classes would gradually decrease in August every year, but this year it has doubled.”
