Getxo Kirolak and local sports clubs concluded a participatory planning process on October 23, 2026, to determine spatial requirements for the upcoming remodeling of the Fadura fronton building, getxo.eus reported.
Participatory Planning Sessions Shape Fadura Fronton Remodeling
Around 40 representatives from local sports clubs and Getxo Kirolak met during October across two working sessions at TikiToki Zentroa. In addition to the in-person workshops, officials gathered more than 70 proposals submitted through Zeugaz, the digital participation platform maintained by the Getxo municipal government.
Participants established general criteria prioritizing multipurpose sports infrastructure designed to accommodate multiple athletic disciplines. Under the agreed guidelines, the revamped facility will incorporate shared-use dressing rooms, rest and waiting areas, meeting rooms, and a gymnasium.
Strategic Equipment Priorities for Basque Pelota and Indoor Sports
Strategic plans designate an indoor boulder climbing installation and a skatepark as essential additions. Municipal officials noted that these amenities address a clear local demand from Getxo residents who currently travel to other municipalities to practice those sports indoors.

The facility design incorporates three fronton courts configured for various disciplines of Basque pelota while remaining adaptable for shared use with other activities. Versatile spatial planning will also allow the venue to host archery, table tennis, badminton, rink hockey, boxing, rhythmic gymnastics, and circus arts.
Working groups also evaluated technical requirements for lighting, acoustic conditions, parking optimization, sustainable mobility measures, and modernized building access.
Technical Review and Upcoming Architectural Drafts
Getxo Kirolak will now perform technical, organizational, and budgetary validations of all proposed spaces and sports uses. This evaluation marks the final step before the organization proceeds with drafting the formal preliminary architectural project.
