PlayStation developer Gezine has claimed to have achieved a working zero-day kernel exploit for both PS4 and PS5 consoles running on the latest system software, according to a post made on X on April 15, 2026.
The developer, known for previous work on PS4 exploits such as BD-JB up to firmware 12.50, stated in the post that the exploit would not be released to the public.
Gezine’s claim builds on prior research involving the YouTube application on PS5. Earlier work by developer @aves demonstrated how a YouTube package could be run on retail PS5 hardware, which Gezine analyzed and expanded upon to create the Y2JB exploit—a userland proof of concept that uses the official YouTube app version 01.000.003 as an entry point.
The Y2JB exploit operates by modifying a backup of the PS5 system containing a compromised YouTube app PKG package. When restored, the app launches and intentionally crashes after a few seconds, which serves as confirmation that arbitrary code has been executed at the user level.
While the Y2JB exploit provides userland access and opens avenues for homebrew and emulators, it does not grant kernel privileges. Gezine’s recently claimed zero-day kernel exploit would represent a significant advancement, potentially enabling deeper system access if verified.
