Giants Sign CB Greg Newsome II: 1-Year Deal

Giants Sign Cornerback Greg Newsome II to One-Year Deal

The New York Giants have agreed to a one-year contract with cornerback Greg Newsome II, March 10, 2026, according to reports. The deal provides the former first-round draft pick with an opportunity to re-establish his value on the open market in 2027.

Newsome, 25, entered the NFL after a successful collegiate career at Northwestern University, where he started for three seasons and earned first-team All-Big Ten honors as a junior. He was selected by the Cleveland Browns with the No. 26 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

The Browns exercised their fifth-year option on Newsome’s rookie contract, a fully guaranteed deal worth $13.377 million for the 2025 season. However, he was traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars mid-season last year, along with a 2026 sixth-round draft pick, in exchange for cornerback Tyson Campbell and a 2026 seventh-round pick.

During the 2025 season, Newsome appeared in five games for the Browns and 12 games for the Jaguars. He finished the year with 52 total tackles, two tackles for loss, one interception, and nine pass deflections.

The move to the Giants comes after Newsome reportedly struggled to find his footing with the Jaguars following the mid-season trade. The one-year contract allows him to showcase his abilities and potentially secure a more lucrative long-term deal following the 2026 season.

The Giants, who were active on the first day of the NFL’s legal tampering period, have already secured agreements with tight end Isaiah Likely and linebacker Tremaine Edmunds. Adding Newsome to the roster addresses a need in the secondary, though other potential targets remain under consideration, including linebacker Micah McFadden, who could be re-signed, and Sonny Styles.

Other players the Giants could consider on Day 2 of the draft include wide receiver Romeo Doubs, linebacker Leo Chenal, and offensive guard Wyatt Teller, according to reports. The team missed out on Alijah Vera-Tucker, who is heading to New England.

Newsome’s previous contract with the Browns was a four-year deal worth $12,748,736, including a $6,631,808 signing bonus.
