The world of Gintama is extending its 20th-anniversary celebration well into 2026, with a flurry of releases and events designed to honor the beloved manga and anime franchise. Officially launched on March 19, 2023, the anniversary project is slated to continue throughout the year, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the anime adaptation.

The latest developments, announced in late December 2025 at Jump Festa ’26, include a new trailer and key visual for “Gintama The New Movie: Yoshiwara in Flames Arc.” This cinematic installment promises to bring the popular arc to life on the big screen. The project has been consistently updated with new content, including apparel collaborations and releases of related media.

Fans of the series have had a steady stream of merchandise and content to enjoy. A new collaboration with Bibisama Apparel released a “WINTER COLLECTION” featuring sweaters, t-shirts, and socks in October 2025. Further expanding the Gintama universe, the Blu-ray & DVD release dates for Gintama: 3nen Zgumi Ginpachi Sensei were announced in early October, complete with limited editions and bonus content.

The franchise is also branching out into new formats. A Gintama x Mahjong Soul collaboration was announced on October 3rd, accompanied by a 12-minute special episode. A Gintama themed board game, “Gintama: Who’s the shogun?,” is slated for release this winter, offering fans a new way to engage with the series. A special edition of Quick Japan vol. 180, featuring 3nen Zgumi Ginpachi Sensei, hit shelves on October 10th.

Beyond merchandise and games, Gintama is maintaining a strong presence at industry events. The franchise secured a stage at Jump Festa ’26 on the Super Stage RED, as announced on August 31st. Another apparel collaboration, this time with Bibisama Jackets, became available in the US & Canada on August 20th. And on August 16th, it was announced that 3nen Zgumi Ginpachi Sensei would be released in October.

Visually, the 20th-anniversary project has been marked by striking artwork. A key visual for the anniversary features Gintoki Sakata, Kagura, Shinpachi Shimura, and Sadaharu flying through space, with Gintoki on his scooter and Kagura riding Sadaharu. A separate key visual was created for the live concert, Gintama Sound Ultra Soul ‘24, depicting the Yorozuya trio alongside the Shinsengumi trio, Katsura, and Takasugi wearing concert T-shirts. Gintama Sound Ultra Soul ‘24 took place on February 11, 2024, featuring performances by Audio Highs, who worked on the show’s original soundtrack.

The anniversary project also includes a new anime based on the modern AU spin-off, 3-Nen Z-Gumi Ginpachi-sensei, which is expected to premiere in the future. A theatrical adaptation of the Baragaki arc debuted in Japanese theaters on November 10, 2023.

A limited-edition visual canvas board featuring Sakata Gintoki, Shinpachi Shimura, and Kagura was available for purchase, though it appears to have sold out by January 30, 2026. The canvas board was listed for US $100.59, with shipping from Tokyo, Japan, and an estimated delivery between February 9th and February 17th.

The latest release, a special edition of anan magazine, features a newly drawn cover of Gintoki and Kagura, showcasing them in a striking pose. The magazine includes a nine-page feature on the upcoming film, Gintama – The Final, and delves into the enduring appeal of the TV anime series through memorable quotes and insights. Interviews with the voice actors – Sugita Tomokazu (Gintoki), Sakaguchi Daisuke (Shinpachi), and Nagamiya Riye (Kagura) – offer a glimpse into their experiences and affection for the series. A special interview with Dayo Hino, the voice of Kagura, and a discussion with director Ando Shinya and producer Maekawa Takashi are also included. The magazine also features a “Gintama Great People Record” using visuals from the new film.

The anan special edition focuses on the theme of “attraction,” exploring the feelings of love, admiration, and fascination. It also includes features on other trending topics, such as Edo-style running and the popular ramen chain, Yamooka House.
