Neuquén, Argentina – A desperate search is underway for a 10-year-old girl who was swept away by the powerful currents of the Limay River on Tuesday afternoon. The incident occurred near the Balsa Las Perlas bridge, an area not designated for swimming. The girl was bathing with her brother when the current proved too strong. While her father managed to rescue the boy, he was unable to reach his daughter.

“The family is new to the region adn was unaware of the river’s hazardous conditions,” said Comisario Guillermo Alfaro, highlighting the challenges posed by the river’s depth and dense vegetation.

Authorities have launched a massive search operation involving divers, boats, and ground teams utilizing dogs, bicycles, and motorcycles. Police from both Neuquén and Río Negro provinces are collaborating in the effort.

“There’s a possibility the girl may have managed to get out of the water and is lost,” Alfaro explained, emphasizing the ongoing urgency of the search.

The search was temporarily suspended at nightfall on Tuesday due to limited visibility but resumed at dawn with renewed intensity. The family is receiving psychological support as the agonizing wait for news continues.
