Road Closures Reported Across Southwestern France Following Rainfall and Ongoing Protests
Multiple roadways across southwestern France are currently experiencing closures or disruptions due to a combination of heavy rainfall and ongoing farmer protests, authorities report. The disruptions are impacting traffic in the Gironde and Dordogne departments, with significant delays expected.
In the Haute Gironde, the RD255 at Braud-et-Saint-Louis is completely blocked, with drivers advised to detour via RD135, RD135E1, RD137, and RD136.
Within the Libournais region, several routes are affected. These include the RD130 at Pessac-sur-Dordogne, the RD120 at Savignac, the RD247e3 at Sablons, the RD130e9 at Saint-Philippe-du-Seignal, the RD130e4 at Juillac, the RD18 at Cabara, and the RD18e3 at Les Billaux.
The Entre-deux-Mers area is also heavily impacted. Road closures are in effect on the RD13e4 and RD936 at Bonnetan, the RD140 at Romagne, the RD140 and RD239 at Langoiran, the RD139 at Saint-Pierre-de-Bat, the RD19 also at Saint-Pierre-de-Bat, the RD671 at Bellebat, the RD231 at Arbis, the RD10 and RD13e6 at Rions, the RD11 at Escoussans, the RD230 at Cadillac, the RD109E7 at Ayguemorte-les-Graves, the RD115 at Lignan-de-Bordeaux, the RD241 at Tresses, the RD238 at Targon, and the RD238 at Baigneaux.
Further south in the Gironde department, closures are reported on the RD21 at Saint-Sève, the RD224 at Hure, the RD15 at Morizès, the RD228 at Coirac/Saint-Pierre-de-Bat, the RD119 at Coirac bourg, the RD116 at Sauternes/Preignac, the RD220 at Origne/Guillos, the RD228 at Saint-Martial, the RD129 at Saint-Hilaire-du-Bois, the RD131 at Saint-Exupéry, the RD21 at Pont de Loubens, the RD123 at Saint-André-du-Bois, and the RD131e1 at Saint-Laurent-du-Plan.
On the Bassin d’Arcachon, disruptions are occurring on the RD652 at Gujan-Mestras, the RD804e1 at La Teste-de-Buch, the RD5E6 at Le Barp, the RD110 towards Louchats, and the RD802 at Belin-Béliet.
The Department has stated that teams have been reinforced “to monitor the state of the roads, secure the routes and follow the situation in real time.”
These closures come as France continues to grapple with farmer protests, which began on December 16, 2025, and have caused widespread disruption to motorways and local traffic. The protests initially stemmed from anger over authorities ordering the culling of cattle infected with lumpy skin disease, and were further fueled by the EU-South America ‘Mercosur’ trade deal. Farmers have been blocking roads, including major motorways, with tractors and other machinery, and organizing slow-moving convoys into towns and cities.
The road closures are also occurring amid reports of significant rainfall in the Côtes-d’Armor department, leading to flooding and further impacting travel conditions. Trains have been suspended and traffic affected by road closures in that region.
Motorway operators such as Vinci and Sanef provide live traffic maps, though information may be limited to routes directly managed by the concessionaires. Travelers are advised to check departmental websites for live maps of traffic conditions within specific areas.
Authorities are urging motorists to exercise caution and plan their journeys accordingly, allowing extra time for potential delays. The situation remains fluid, and further road closures may be implemented as conditions evolve.
