Langon Seeks Furnishings Retailer for Former garden Center Site

LANGON, France (AP) — The former Villaverde garden center in Langon, a fixture for 18 years, ⁢closed its doors last august. The 2,200-square-meter site, acquired by⁤ a real estate company affiliated with the E.Leclerc shopping center, now presents an opportunity in ‌the Dumès commercial area.Alain Lafforgue, CEO of Langon Distribution ⁤(E.Leclerc), discussed potential plans for the location with The South Gironde Republican.

Furnishings‌ Concept Targeted for Vacant Space

Lafforgue ⁤stated the primary ⁤goal is to attract a furnishings and home decor business, potentially similar to Goal or Conforama.”We are aiming for retailers offering products in a lower price range, reflecting the current ⁢decline in purchasing power,” Lafforgue ⁣said. “This type of store is‍ currently lacking in langon.”

He added that securing a franchisee to undertake the project would be ideal, given the available space. Karine Chardavoine, project manager for Leclerc, noted that the current economic climate might extend the project’s timeline.

Economic Headwinds Impacting home Furnishings Sector

Lafforgue emphasized‍ the challenges facing the furniture and decoration industry. “Even though we recognize Langon’s potential and the demand for such a store, project leaders are proceeding⁤ cautiously, partly because banks are hesitant to provide financing,” he explained.

Chardavoine acknowledged that while some renovations are needed, securing an investor is the main⁣ obstacle. She also raised the possibility of considering a project leader from a different business sector.

We ‌are committed to this ⁢concept as there has been strong demand‌ for furniture in Langon for the past 20 years.

Alain Lafforgue, CEO of Leclerc

Chardavoine further explained the limited options for locating a large-format furniture store. “Currently, there is no other available space of at ⁤least 2,000 square meters suitable for a ⁣furnishings retailer,” she said. She mentioned land‍ behind La Boucherie ⁤resturant, but its ⁢progress is currently restricted by the ‌local Inter-municipal Urban Plan (PLUI).

“So, today, it is the only building of this‍ surface in a commercial area that remains for us,” ⁢specifies the project manager.
