GITEX AFRICA Morocco 2026: AI to Drive African Digital Economy

February 25, 2026 Victoria Sterling -Business Editor Business

Marrakech, Morocco, is poised to become a central hub for technological innovation in Africa, hosting the fourth edition of GITEX AFRICA Morocco from April 7 to April 9, 2026. The event, organized under the authority of the Ministry of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform of the Kingdom of Morocco, aims to bolster Africa’s digital economy and accelerate the adoption of emerging technologies, with a particular focus on artificial intelligence.

This year’s summit, themed “Catalyzing the African Digital Economy in the Age of Artificial Intelligence,” will bring together government leaders, industry executives, startups, investors, researchers, and technology actors to explore strategies for building responsible AI infrastructure, evolving digital public policies, and scaling impactful solutions across the continent. The event is orchestrated by KAOUN International, a subsidiary of Dubai World Trade Centre, in partnership with the Digital Development Agency.

The timing of GITEX AFRICA Morocco 2026 coincides with a period of significant global disruption driven by advancements in AI, which is reshaping value chains worldwide. Organizers emphasize the event’s ambition to support the emergence of a competitive, inclusive, and sovereign African digital economy. According to organizers, the event will serve as a strategic platform for exchange and collaboration on key areas of digital transformation, including connectivity, smart cities, cybersecurity, fintech, and AI-based solutions.

The Moroccan government views the event as a key component of its broader digital strategy. The initiative aligns with the vision of the Digital for Sustainable Development Hub (D4SD), launched by the Ministry of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme. Minister Delegate for Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni, stated that through the D4SD, “we are building a platform for Arab-African digital cooperation based on the pooling of expertise, skills development, and the deployment of Artificial Intelligence solutions tailored to the development priorities of our countries.” She further envisions digital technology as “a structuring lever for co-development in Africa, while ensuring that technological innovation contributes concretely to sustainable development and improving the lives of citizens.”

Amine El Mezouaghi, Director General of the Digital Development Agency, highlighted the critical role of AI in Africa’s digital development. He stated that AI is “a determining lever for the digital development of the African continent, provided that effective convergence between public policies, infrastructure and investments is guaranteed.” He positions GITEX AFRICA Morocco as a strategic framework for co-creation, capable of uniting African and international ecosystems around concrete solutions adapted to the continent’s realities, while accelerating the deployment of high-impact digital projects and sustainably strengthening local capabilities.

GITEX AFRICA Morocco aims to bridge the gap between policy, investment, and innovation. The event’s international dimension is considered a crucial element of its success. Trixie LohMirmand, CEO of GITEX AFRICA Morocco, stated that the ambition for 2026 is to move beyond mere exchange and firmly establish the event within the realm of concrete execution. “By placing this edition under the sign of responsible Artificial Intelligence, we are erecting a reference platform where international innovation dialogues with African sovereignty,” she said. She emphasized that the event is not simply a technological showcase, but a catalyst for cross-border cooperation designed to accelerate the deployment of high-impact digital solutions and strengthen the continent’s economic resilience for decades to come.

The event’s organizers are positioning it as a key venue for international digital cooperation, reinforcing its role as a structuring platform for an ambitious, innovative, and sovereign digital Africa. The summit is expected to attract significant investment and foster partnerships between African startups and global tech leaders. The focus on AI is intended to address specific challenges and opportunities within the African context, promoting solutions tailored to the continent’s unique needs.

GITEX Africa Morocco 2026 builds on the momentum of previous editions, aiming to solidify Marrakech’s position as a major crossroads for technology and innovation in Africa. The event’s success will likely be measured by its ability to attract investment, facilitate knowledge sharing, and drive the adoption of digital technologies across the continent, ultimately contributing to a more inclusive and sustainable digital economy.
