GKIDS Lands ‘All You Need Is Kill’: Anime Adaptation Coming Soon

GKIDS has secured distribution rights for the animated sci-fi drama, “All You Need Is Kill,” across North America, the United Kingdom, Ireland, australia, and New Zealand. The acquisition promises to bring a fresh take on the time-looping narrative.
Based on Hiroshi SakurazakaS novel, the film shares its source material with the 2014 Tom cruise and Emily Blunt movie, “Edge of Tomorrow.” Kenichiro Akimoto directs, with Yuichiro Kido penning the script. The anime premiered at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival.
Warner Bros. Japan produced “All You Need Is Kill,” with animation by Studio 4°C,known for “Tekkonkinkreet” and “Mind Game.” The studio also presented Yasuhiro Aoki’s “ChaO” at Annecy.
Set in a near-future Japan, the story centers on Rita, a volunteer helping rebuild after the emergence of the “Darol,” an alien flower. When the Darol unleashes deadly creatures, Rita dies, only to reawaken and repeat the day. She then meets Keiji, who is also trapped in the same loop. Together, thay seek to break free and find meaning amidst the chaos.
Akimoto said the film aims to show that even in endless loops, growth and discovery are possible through perspective.
GKIDS President Dave Jesteadt called “All You Need Is kill” a standout work exploring time, identity, and survival. He added that Akimoto created a brilliant new take on the story.
GKIDS previously collaborated with Studio 4°C on “Mind Game” and “Children of the Sea.” They also recently acquired “ChaO.”

Release details for “All You Need is Kill” will be announced later. Rodney Uhler, GKIDS’ director of acquisitions and progress, and Warner Bros. Japan negotiated the deal.
