LYON, France – GL Events, a Lyon-based group, announced Monday evening that it has been awarded the operating concession for the Stade de France for the next 30 years. The proclamation, according to a press release, follows months of procedural review.
GL Events was chosen over the existing consortium of Vinci and Bouygues Immobilier, which has managed the stadium since 1995. The transition is slated to occur on Aug. 5, pending the formal signing of the concession contract with the French State, the stadium’s owner. As of Monday night, neither Bercy (the French Ministry of economy and Finance) nor the Ministry of Sports had confirmed the data when contacted by Agence France-Presse.
“The GL Events teams, experienced in organizing and hosting large-scale international sporting and cultural events, will be ready for the first concerts in August 2025 at the Stade de France,” stated Olivier ginon, head of the event group. The rock group AC/DC already has two concerts scheduled for early August 2025.
Legal Challenges Preceded Award
the awarding procedure faced delays. In early December 2024, the State initially announced GL Events as its choice for exclusive negotiations. The Vinci-Bouygues consortium, holding the current contract (Vinci with two-thirds ownership and Bouygues with one-third), challenged the decision, arguing unequal treatment among candidates. They filed a summary proceeding with the administrative judge to request the cancellation of the tender launched in March 2023 to select the new concessionaire.
In early February, the Montreuil administrative court rejected the consortium’s appeal, ruling that the State had met its obligations regarding advertising and competition.
Future of French Teams at Stade de France
GL Events has reportedly engaged in discussions with the French Football Federation and the French Rugby Federation regarding the association of French national team matches at the Saint-Denis stadium.
