Gladiator II Smashes Box Office Records with $87M Opening Weekend – Ridley Scott’s New Triumph
Gladiator II: International Box Office Success
“Gladiator II” scored the highest international opening for a Ridley Scott film, earning $87 million over the weekend. The film premiered in 63 territories, including the UK, where it made $11.4 million from 722 locations and $10.3 million in France from 729 locations.
Although “Gladiator II” had a strong opening, it performed slightly below February’s “Dune: Part Two,” which earned $97 million internationally in its first weekend. In contrast, Pixar’s “Inside Out 2” made $140 million, while Disney’s “Deadpool & Wolverine” took in $233 million during the same period.
“Gladiator II” did significantly better than “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,” which made $30 million, and the Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt comedy “The Fall Guy,” which earned $36.7 million on their opening weekends.
The film’s cast and crew recently wrapped up a global press tour, culminating in a screening attended by King Charles III. They partnered with various brands worldwide to improve the film’s profile, including a Mexican biscuit brand and a collaboration with Rome’s public transport.
In Australia, dessert shops offered a limited edition “Emperor’s Collection” featuring pistachio desserts. In Paris, the French Coffee Shop introduced a “Gladiator II” salted caramel latte.
Hope remains high that Scott’s sequel will boost global box office numbers after disappointing performances from “Venom: The Last Dance” and “Red One.”
“Gladiator II” opens in the US on the same day as the anticipated musical “Wicked,” leading to speculation about a competitive box office result.
