The Grammy-winning singer announced her decision in a public statement on August 27, explaining that she intends to focus on personal projects and family time rather than maintaining a heavy touring routine.

“After much soul searching I’ve decided that I will be easing into fewer performances while focusing on transitioning into the next stage of her career and life moving forward,” Knight wrote in her statement. She added that she plans to spend more time on personal projects with her husband and visit her grandchildren.

However, her husband and manager, William McDowell, pushed back against rumors of cognitive decline while speaking with the outlet. McDowell stated that while Knight has “good days and bad,” continuing to perform remains entirely her own choice.
