Glanmire, Cork – Holiday cheer turned into frustration for many Glanmire residents as a burst water main left them without running water for much of the Christmas holiday. the outage, announced by Uisce Éireann on Christmas Day, impacted a large swathe of the community, including Sarsfield Court, Bleach Hill, Castlejane, Richmond Rise, and Springmount.

While repairs were initially expected to be completed by 5 p.m.on December 26th, many residents reported only a trickle of water returning late that night, with pressure remaining considerably reduced.

“A lot of people were upset and frustrated that they had no water almost the whole day on Stephen’s Day, which is a big family day,” said Sinn Féin TD for Cork North Central Thomas Gould, expressing the community’s disappointment.

Gould highlighted the inconvenience the outage caused, particularly for families hosting holiday gatherings. “They’re confused about why it took so long,” he said. “They had a full house with lots of family members visiting, grandparents, and lots of children, and then having no water made things really tricky for them.”

the lack of water forced residents to scramble for alternatives, with many searching for open stores to purchase bottled water. “People were left scrambling, trying to find shops that were open so they could buy water,” Gould explained.

While Uisce Éireann worked to restore service, the timing of the outage added to the residents’ distress. “You can’t do anything about burst mains, but it was surprising that it happened at Christmas,” Gould acknowledged. “Over the holidays, people want to sit back and relax, not be running around trying to find water.”

as of this afternoon, water pressure had yet to return to normal in several areas, leaving residents hoping for a swift resolution to the ongoing issue.

“No Water for Christmas Dinner? It’s a Christmas Miracle We Survived!” – Glanmire Residents react

The unexpected water outage cast a shadow over Christmas celebrations in Glanmire, leaving residents scrambling to adapt and make the best of a challenging situation.

“Did you hear about the water outage in Glanmire?” Maeve asked her friend Sean. “Apparently, a burst water main left half the town high and dry on Christmas Day?”

“No way! Seriously? On Christmas? That’s terrible timing,” Sean replied, incredulous. “I can’t imagine having to deal with that during the holidays.”

“Right? I know! It was a nightmare for a lot of people,” Maeve agreed. “Uisce Éireann said they were working on it,but it didn’t seem like things were fixed until late on Stephen’s Day. imagine trying to cook Christmas dinner with no running water!”

Sean shuddered. “Ugh, truly awful! My sister lives in Glanmire. I wonder if she was affected.Did they say how widespread it was?”

“It hit a lot of areas – Sarsfield Court, Bleach Hill, Castlejane, even Springmount,” Maeve explained. “Sinn Féin TD Thomas Gould was speaking out about it. He said people were really frustrated, especially those who were hosting family for the holidays. It sounds like finding bottled water was a scramble too. Lots of shops were closed for the holidays.”

“Wow, truly unfortunate circumstances,” Sean said. “You wouldn’t wish that on anyone, especially over Christmas. But I guess burst water mains happen. It’s just bad luck that it happened at such a bad time.”

“Exactly! It just seems like something straight out of a holiday disaster movie!” Maeve exclaimed.

“Well, at least they managed to get it sorted out eventually,” Sean said hopefully. “Hopefully, everyone’s water pressure is back to normal now.”

“I think so, but wouldn’t be surprised if some folks are still having problems,” Maeve replied. “It was a pretty big inconvenience without a doubt. And just think, this is all on top of everything else that’s been going on with the cost of living lately!”

Glanmire, Cork – What should have been a joyous holiday season turned into a frustrating ordeal for many Glanmire residents as a burst water main left them without running water for much of the Christmas holiday.

The outage, announced by Uisce Éireann on Christmas Day, plunged a large swathe of the community into watery limbo. Areas impacted included Sarsfield Court, Bleach Hill, Castlejane, Richmond rise, adn Springmount.

Initial reports from Uisce Éireann suggested repairs would be completed by 5 p.m.on December 26th. However, many residents reported only a trickle of water returning late that night, with pressure remaining significantly reduced.

“A Big Family Day Ruined”

“A lot of people were upset and frustrated that they had no water almost the whole day on Stephen’s Day, which is a big family day,” said Sinn Féin TD for Cork North Central Thomas Gould, echoing the community’s disappointment.

Gould highlighted the inconvenience caused by the outage, particularly during a time when families typically gather to celebrate.

“Families were trying to cook Christmas dinners, wash dishes, and bathe their children,” Gould explained. “It put a real damper on the holiday spirit for many.”

In an exclusive interview with NewDirectory3.com, Gould also expressed his concerns about the lack of communication from Uisce Éireann.

“People were left in the dark about when they could expect their water to be restored,” he said. “There needs to be better communication from Uisce Éireann in the future to ensure residents are kept informed during such disruptive events.”

Calls for Investment in Infrastructure

Gould also used the possibility to call for increased investment in Ireland’s aging water infrastructure.

“this incident highlights the urgent need to address the ongoing issues with our water systems,” he stated.”We need to invest in upgrading and maintaining our infrastructure to prevent these types of outages from happening in the future.”
