Glastonbury Festival, a highlight for music enthusiasts, is currently underway, but organizers have confirmed the festival will take a fallow year in 2026. This tradition, rooted in agricultural practices, allows the Worthy Farm farmland to recover and replenish its nutrients.
The last official fallow year was in 2018. The COVID-19 pandemic forced cancellations in 2020 and 2021. Emily eavis, a festival organizer, mentioned last July that the break would “give the land a rest.”
Michael Eavis, speaking in The Glastonbury Free Press, said he initiated the fallow years in the 1980s to alleviate stress related to licensing, policing, and community relations. “we’ll give them all a break so they’ve got nothing to complain about for a bit! And of course, the farm gets a rest,” Eavis said.
The gates to Glastonbury 2025 opened early Wednesday morning,with fans greeted by Michael and Emily Eavis,accompanied by a brass band. Early arrivals enjoyed a circus and acrobatics show on the Pyramid Stage, followed by fireworks.
