Global Recognition for Courage: María Corina Machado Honored with Prestigious International Democracy Award
The Venezuelan opposition leader was recognized by the International Association of Political Consultants.
Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado awarded the International Democracy Prize 2024which was awarded by the International Association of Political Consultants (IAPC), an organization that recognizes political and civil figures who stand out for their defense of democratic values around the world.
This award, one of the most prestigious in the political field, is a support for Machado’s career and their opposition to a system of Nicolas Maduro in Venezuela.
The award, presented by the president of the IAPC, Carlos Fara; and the general secretary, Melissa Cresseyhighlights Machado’s commitment to principles justice, honor the TRUE in a nation plunged into a deep political and social crisis.
In the official statement, the IAPC paid tribute to “the honest, hardworking and democratic Venezuelans who tirelessly fight for the values of Justice, Honor and Truth” and advocated for the “freedom for Venezuela“.

The recognition medal displays the word “democracy” in Greek (δημοκρατία), together with an engraving symbolizing the Parthenon of Athensan icon of classical democracy.
On October 24, the democratic opposition of Venezuela, represented by the leaders of the movement Edmundo González Urrutia and the above Maria Corina Machadowon the Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Conscience which gives a grant every year the European Parliament for an outstanding contribution in the field of human rights.
González Urrutia and Machado achieved the the support of a majority of the heads of political groups in the European Parliament meeting behind closed doors in Strasbourg (France), as confirmed to the news agency EFE parliamentary sources.
In her later announcement to the Chamber, the President of the European Parliament said, Roberta Metsolacertainly that Machado and González Urrutia They represent all Venezuelans inside and outside the country that “They are fighting to restore freedom and democracy in the face of injustice“.
“They are fighting for a free, fair and peaceful transfer of power and they have fearlessly defended the values of millions of Venezuelans and this European Parliament: justice, democracy and the rule of law. We trust that Venezuela and democracy will prevail,” said Metsola.
It was about the the second time the Venezuelan opposition won this award after being achieved in 2017 by the National Assembly chaired Julio Borges and the political prisoners.
Moreover, in September the European Parliament approved a symbolic resolution to recognize González Urrutia as the legitimately elected president of Venezuela.
With this symbolism, the IAPC highlighted the the importance of fighting Machado in a country where democratic institutions have been weakened in recent years.
