Memphis rapper Glorilla, born Gloria Woods, is at the center of a legal storm, facing felony drug possession charges. Though, her legal team is vehemently asserting that the artist is, actually, the victim in a complex case involving drugs, stolen jewelry, adn a home invasion.
The Arrest and the Allegations
The “Yeah Glo!” rapper’s arrest for felony drug possession on Thursday, July 24, immediately prompted her lawyers to challenge the authorities’ actions and their client’s treatment. According to reports, Glorilla’s home was broken into over the weekend while she was out of town.Forsyth county law enforcement responded to a “burglary in progress” on Saturday, July 19. It is alleged that three individuals entered the residence but were met with gunfire from an “armed occupant” inside, leading to their retreat.
During a sweep of the property to ensure no remaining threats, deputies reportedly detected a “strong odor consistent with illegal narcotics.” This led to the securing of a search warrant, during which a “important amount of marijuana” was allegedly discovered in the closet of the main bedroom.
despite not being present during the home invasion, Glorilla was later charged with felony possession of marijuana and possession of a Schedule One controlled substance, both serious offenses in Georgia. She voluntarily surrendered at the Forsyth County Jail on Tuesday, posted a $22,260 bond, and was released the same day, as confirmed by TMZ Hip Hop.
glorilla’s defense: Victim, Not Suspect
Glorilla’s attorneys, Marissa Goldberg and Drew Findling, have strongly criticized the legal proceedings, arguing that their client is being unfairly targeted. In a statement to the press, they declared, “The arrest of Gloria Woods is a disturbing window into how warped law enforcement priorities have become.”
The legal team elaborated on the circumstances, stating, “Ms. Woods was out of town when her residence became a target for a group of home invaders who most likely knew she wasn’t there. What they didn’t know was that she had family staying with her that were traumatized by the violent entrance of this group who grabbed high-value jewelry before taking off once they realized the home wasn’t vacant.”
Adding to their statement, the law firm emphasized the lack of action against the alleged intruders: “No arrest warrants have been issued for the violent home invaders. Ms. Woods is a victim, not a suspect.[These are] our tax dollars at work, absolutely amazing.”
Glorilla Speaks Out
On Thursday, July 24, Glorilla herself shared her perspective on the situation via a post on X. ”Long story short my house [was] home invaded and I’m the only one [who] gets arrested,” she wrote. The rapper also clarified her whereabouts during the incident, noting that she was in Indianapolis performing at the WNBA All-Star game over the weekend. This statement further bolsters her legal team’s narrative that she was an absent victim of a crime.
