General Motors has appointed David Mogensen as the new Chief Marketing Officer for Cadillac. The appointment fills a leadership vacancy that had existed since July 2025.

Mogensen joins the luxury automotive division from Uber, where he served as Vice President of Global Marketing. His appointment is intended to support Cadillac’s global expansion and its transition toward a software-driven, electric vehicle strategy.

Executive Background and Experience

Mogensen brings over 20 years of marketing experience across the technology and automotive sectors. During his six-year tenure at Uber, he led global marketing efforts across more than 70 countries.

In his most recent role at Uber, he oversaw teams responsible for the Uber and Uber Eats brands, focusing on customer engagement and strengthening the company’s global presence. He also managed marketing operations for the company across Africa, the Middle East, and Europe.

Before his time at Uber, Mogensen held senior positions at Google. His work there included leading marketing initiatives throughout Northern Europe and managing global B2B product marketing for YouTube, contributing to the platform’s growth into a multi-billion-dollar business.

Mogensen’s experience also includes a tenure at BMW, where he was responsible for managing advertising efforts and brand positioning within the United States.

Strategic Context for Cadillac

The appointment comes as Cadillac accelerates its electric vehicle strategy to compete with other luxury EV manufacturers, including Tesla. The role of Chief Marketing Officer is central to driving sales, consideration, and brand awareness as the company introduces new electric models.

Mogensen’s background in tech-industry leadership is aligned with General Motors’ focus on software-driven features. In a statement shared via LinkedIn on April 2, 2026, Mogensen described the role at Cadillac as a career goal influenced by his previous experience at BMW.

Leadership Transition

Mogensen replaces Melissa Grady Dias, who departed from the Cadillac CMO position in July 2025 after nearly seven years in the role.

Following the departure of Dias, the position remained vacant for approximately eight months. In November 2025, GM Chief Communications Officer Lin-Hua Wu assumed additional CMO duties on an interim basis.

Mogensen acknowledged several GM leaders in his transition, including Rory Harvey, Lin-Hua Wu, and Mark Reuss.

Broader General Motors Marketing Shifts

The hiring of Mogensen coincides with other leadership changes within General Motors’ marketing structure. The company has initiated a search for a new marketing leader for the Buick and GMC brands following the departure of Suzanne Guzzo.
