The GMR Rugby Premier League (RPL) is set to kick off its first season with major backing. JSW Cement, Amul, and Capgemini India have signed on as sponsors, signaling growing corporate interest in the sport of rugby and its potential within the Indian market. The GMR rugby Premier League aims to raise rugby’s prominence and cultivate a lively audience across India, highlighting the important role of sports in community building.
Capgemini India, a division of the multinational consulting and technology firm, will serve as the league’s official transformation partner. Capgemini has a considerable presence in India, employing approximately 175,000 peopel across 13 sites.The company provides services including application development and business intelligence.
Ashwin Yardi, CEO of Capgemini in India, said the partnership with GMR sports for RPL strengthens the company’s commitment to inclusion. He added that Capgemini aims to make rugby in India more accessible, supporting player development from grassroots to the professional level.
JSW Cement and Amul have demonstrated thier commitment to Indian sports through sponsorships across various competitions. JSW Cement, part of the JSW Group, has supported projects encouraging grassroots talent. Amul has sponsored leagues ranging from cricket to football, and now rugby.
