GMR Rugby Premier League Launches Inaugural Season in Mumbai

Mumbai is set to host the debut of the GMR Rugby Premier League (RPL) today at the Andheri Sports Complex. This marks the first franchise-based Rugby Sevens league.
Six teams will vie for the championship: the Bengaluru Bravehearts, Chennai Bulls, Delhi Redz, Hyderabad Heroes, Kalinga Black Tigers, and Mumbai Dreamers.
The league showcases a mix of international and local talent. Thirty international players from top Rugby Sevens nations such as New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, Fiji, Argentina, Great Britain, Ireland, the United States, and Spain are participating. Eighteen additional foreign players from Canada, Hong Kong, and Germany add further depth to the competition. The GMR RPL also includes 30 Indian players.
Each team consists of 13 players, with a requirement of at least two Indian players on the field at all times. Seven players are on the field during play,divided into three forwards and four backs. The starting lineup for each GMR RPL team includes two international players, two international bridge players, two Indian players, and one coach’s choice. Games are structured into four-minute quarters, separated by two-minute breaks, with a total game time of 22 minutes.
