Korea finished fourth in the 2024 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Women’s U-20 Asian Cup held in Uzbekistan in March, earning a spot in the U-20 World Cup for the seventh time.
At that time, Park Yun-jeong finished in second place in Group A of the group stage after defeating Australia (1-2 loss), Taiwan (6-0 win), and Uzbekistan (13-0), and in the semifinals, he faced North Korea (0-3 loss) and in the 3rd/4th place match, he faced Australia (0-1 loss) and achieved 4th place.
Korea has made thorough preparations for this World Cup.
The national team strengthened its organizational skills through training in Gumi, Gyeongsangbuk-do from the 12th to the 17th.
A total of 21 players, including captain Jeon Yu-kyung (Wideok University) and Bae Ye-bin (Wideok University), who were active during the ‘2024 Women’s U-20 Asian Cup’, and 13 others who stood out during the training camp and the expedition to the United States, sweated bullets in preparation for the World Cup.
Korea, which departed for Colombia, the land of the decisive battle, finished its preparations by playing practice matches there.
On the 28th, Korea played against Ghana in sparring to prepare for the match against Nigeria, and ended up drawing 2-2 after a fierce battle.
According to the Korea Football Association, the national team is said to be in top condition with no injured players.
The goal for this competition is to advance to the tournament.
At the 2022 Costa Rica tournament, Korea defeated Canada (2-0) in Group C, but was eliminated in third place after losing to Nigeria and France (both 0-1).
The highest result to date is 3rd place at the 2010 Germany Championships, where women’s soccer legends such as Ji So-yeon (Suwon FC), Lee Min-a, and Kim Hye-ri (both Incheon Hyundai Steel) played as children.
Korea dreams of advancing to the round of 16 at the 2024 Colombia tournament, which will see the tournament expanded to 24 countries, following its quarterfinal appearance at the 2014 Canada tournament, which featured 16 countries.
