Barcelona Reaches Agreement ‍to Sign Polish Goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny

According to recent press reports, Barcelona ‍has reached an agreement to sign Polish⁤ goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny on a free transfer to replace the⁣ injured German Ter Stegen.

Polish‍ journalist Tomas Loderczyk⁢ confirmed that Szczesny will be a Barcelona player‍ within hours ‍of passing a‌ medical⁤ on Thursday.

Szczesny has become Barcelona’s ideal choice ‍to replace the German goalkeeper, who will miss‍ the remainder‍ of the season (8 months) for the Catalan club due to a complete rupture of the patellar tendon in his right knee.

Szczesny announced his final retirement⁢ from⁢ football before his contract with Juventus expired and‌ his last participation was in‌ the European Cup (Euro 2024) with Poland.

Szczesny’s Thoughts ‌on Joining ⁢Barcelona

“Barcelona is one‌ of the best clubs in the world. I’m thinking⁢ about ‍it,⁤ we’re in talks,” Szczesny told⁢ Catalan newspaper “Sport”.

He added, “I ‍understand the difficult situation that has arisen after ‍Ter Stegen’s injury and I think it would be⁢ disrespectful⁤ for me not to consider this option.”

Szczesny’s Contractual ⁣Situation with‍ Juventus

Sources in the ‍newspaper said Barcelona’s‍ management considered Szczesny the ⁣best of all candidates to keep the team in goal for the rest of the⁣ current season, ‌but he must ⁣contact Juventus⁣ officials about a clause in his contract‌ before ‌completing ‍the deal.

Szczesny has to resolve his contractual situation with Juventus, as he canceled his ⁣contract to retire, but he did‌ so ‍by including the terms of joining a top-level‍ club before the end of the contract period, he ‌must pay ‌the club⁤ some money.

Sport ⁣indicate that⁣ the amount is ‌not‌ large, but Barcelona hope that Szczesny ‌will resolve the issue before signing an⁤ official⁣ contract.

Szczesny’s Career Highlights

The former Arsenal goalkeeper agreed to terminate his contract with ⁤Juventus a year before⁣ the official expiry on June 30, 2025.

Szczesny has made 252⁢ appearances for Juventus since joining from Roma for €18.4 million, keeping 100 clean sheets and saving nine penalty kicks ⁣with a success rate of 73%.

He ⁢also⁢ won ⁣eight titles with Juventus, ‍winning the league 3 ⁤times, the Italian Cup 3 ⁤times and the Italian Super Cup ‌twice.
