New York city. The city that never sleeps. A concrete jungle where dreams are made of. and this weekend, its also the home of the CBS Sports classic, where Kentucky basketball will take on Ohio State.
For any Wildcat fan making the pilgrimage to the Big Apple, get ready for an unforgettable experience. As a lifelong Kentucky fan who’s made the trek to NYC countless times, I’m here to offer some insider tips to make your trip truly special.
While I can’t be there in person this year (sigh), I’m living vicariously through all of you lucky enough to witness the Cats in action at Madison Square Garden.
Jack Dempsey’s: Your Kentucky HQ
First things first, you need a home base. For Kentucky fans, there’s no better spot than Jack Dempsey’s,a legendary sports bar just a stone’s throw from MSG.

Big Blue Takes the Big Apple: A Kentucky Fan’s Guide to NYC
New York City – The Kentucky Wildcats are heading to the Big apple, and for Wildcat fans making the trip, the city that never sleeps offers a unique blend of basketball excitement and urban adventure.

But where to start? Fear not, fellow Wildcats, this guide will help you navigate the concrete jungle and make the most of your NYC experience.
Game Day HQ: Jack Demsey’s
If you’re in New York for a Kentucky game, any list of recommendations must start with Jack demsey’s. It’s the official UK bar in the city, home to the UK Alumni Club and game-watch parties for every Kentucky game. It’s also conveniently located near Madison Square Garden, just a short walk east on 33rd Street. Head there before and after the game to be around Big Blue Nation. You’ll see the Kentucky flags flying out front.
Where to Stay
You should already have a place to stay. If not, good luck! Hotel accommodations in NYC can be competitive, especially during big events. I usually stay in Chelsea because it’s far enough away from the midtown madness but close enough to pop in for a visit.
Fueling Up: Pre and post-Game Eats
New York City is a foodie paradise, but the area surrounding Madison Square Garden isn’t exactly known for its culinary gems. Still, there are some solid options:
NY Pizza Suprema: You can’t go wrong with a classic New York slice. NY Pizza Suprema on the corner of 8th and 31st has a reputation for serving some of the best in the city. Los Tacos No. 1: Craving tacos? Head to Los Tacos No. 1, located right next to Madison Square garden. They’re known for their authentic and delicious tacos.
* tick Tock Diner: For a taste of old-school New York, check out Tick Tock Diner,a classic American diner with a long history in Manhattan.
Beyond the Court
While basketball is the main event, New York City offers endless possibilities for exploration.Take a stroll through Central Park, catch a broadway show, or explore the vibrant neighborhoods of Greenwich Village or SoHo.
No matter how you choose to spend your time, make sure to soak up the energy and excitement of the city that never sleeps. Go Cats!
Beyond the Court: A Kentucky Fan’s Guide to NYC Eats and Holiday Cheer
new York City – The Kentucky Wildcats are taking on the Ohio State Buckeyes in the CBS Sports Classic at Madison Square Garden, and Big Blue Nation is ready to paint the city blue. But even the most dedicated fan needs a break from the hardwood.
Whether you’re looking for a pre-game bite, a post-game party, or a festive escape from the basketball frenzy, New York City has something for every Wildcat fan.
Fueling Up for the Game
Keens Steakhouse: For a high-end pre or postgame meal, Keens Steakhouse is a stone’s throw from the Garden. But be warned: reservations are a must. Maybe you can snag a walk-up table, but don’t count on it.
Jack Demsey’s: This lively spot is a KSR favorite. Order a Shepherd’s Pie to soak up all that pre-game beer, or surprise your group with an appetizer medley.
Legends: If Jack Demsey’s is packed, head a little further down the street to Legends. The bacon-wrapped jalapenos and four-cheese mac n’ cheese are KSR-approved. Don’t let the LSU connection deter you – it’s under the same ownership as Demsey’s, so it’s practically family.
Exploring Beyond the Usual
Koreatown: The Garden is just a block from Koreatown, offering a world of authentic Korean flavors. If the game ends around dinnertime, celebrate with bibimbap and Korean BBQ. Turntable Chicken jazz is the go-to spot for Korean fried chicken, also on W 33rd.
Dim sum Palace: After Kentucky’s last game in Madison Square Garden (a loss to UCLA in the 2022 CBS Sports Classic), the KSR crew sought solace in late-night dim sum. Dr. Mike, our resident foodie, lead us to Dim Sum Palace, directly across the street from Jack Demsey’s on W 33rd. It may not have been the most glamorous meal, but it got the job done at 11 p.m.
(KSR’s Steven Peake, Michael Huang, and Drew Franklin after Kentucky’s loss to UCLA in New York) Embracing the Holiday Spirit
Unless you’re a Scrooge, you can’t visit New York in December without experiencing the city’s Christmas magic. Here are some festive alternatives to the Rockefeller Center crowds:
Holiday Markets: Explore charming holiday markets like the Bryant Park Winter Village or the Union Square Holiday Market for unique gifts and festive treats. Ice skating: Glide across the ice at iconic rinks like Rockefeller Center (if you dare), wollman rink in Central Park, or the Rink at Brookfield Place.
Window Displays: Marvel at the elaborate holiday window displays along Fifth Avenue, a tradition that never disappoints.
Holiday Shows: Catch a Broadway show with a festive theme, or enjoy a classic holiday performance like the Radio City Christmas Spectacular.

Clearer Sections: Consider breaking the content into distinct sections with headings and subheadings for easier reading. Such as: “Where to Stay,” ”Game Day Dining,” “Beyond the Court: Exploring NYC,” “Holiday Cheer,” etc.

Fan Travel Tips:
Address things like getting around the city (subway, taxis) and navigating crowds, especially during holiday season.
Tailoring to Wildcats:
KSR References: You’ve sprinkled in references to KSR (Kentucky Sports Radio), which is great for die-hards. But consider explaining KSR for those who might not know.
Kentucky Connections: Highlight any Kentucky or basketball-related spots in NYC (e.g., Kentucky-themed bars, past sites, etc.).
Kentucky Flavor:
perhaps suggest a signature Kentucky cocktail or dish to try at a restaurant.
Additional tips:
