Chiba Prefecture to Honor Olympic Medalists with Prestigious Awards

Chiba Prefecture has announced that it will present the Prefectural Honor Award, Governor’s Award, and other awards to seven athletes with ties to the prefecture who won medals at the Paris Olympics.
The Prefectural Citizen’s Honor Award was awarded to gold medalist Natsumi Kakuta (Yachiyo City) in the women’s 48 kg judo competition, and men’s gymnastics team gold medalists Kazuma Kaya (Chiba City) and Wataru Tanigawa (Funabashi City).
The Governor’s Special Award, which is presented to past recipients of the Prefectural Honor Award, was given to men’s gymnastics team winner Daiki Hashimoto (Narita City) and women’s 50kg wrestling bronze medalist Yui Susaki (Matsudo City).
The Governor’s Award went to Nagayama Ryuju (affiliated with SBC Shonan Beauty Clinic, Urayasu City), who won the bronze medal in the men’s 60 kg judo event, and Anraku Chuto (Yachiyo City), who won the silver medal in the men’s boulder and lead sport climbing event.
The award ceremony will be decided in the future. Governor Toshihito Kumagai expressed his encouragement and respect for the athletes and their coaches, saying, “I am encouraged by the success of athletes with ties to the prefecture. I would also like to express my respect to the coaches of each athlete.”
