North Korean Athletes Shine at International Championships

At the International Boxing Federation 2024 World Youth Boxing Championships, North Korea’s Son Su-rim took first place, bringing home the championship cup and gold medal.

The prestigious tournament, which drew approximately 590 outstanding male and female athletes from over 70 countries and regions, saw Son Su-rim emerge victorious in the women’s 60kg competition. She defeated her opponents and entered the final match, where she narrowly defeated the Chinese athlete 3:2.

Another North Korean athlete, Park Shin-ah, competed in the women’s 63kg class and took second place, showcasing the country’s growing prowess in the sport.

Asian Water Jump Championships

Meanwhile, at the 11th Asian Water Jump Championships held in China, North Korean athletes made a splash in various events. Choi Wi-hyun and Lee Pyeong-kwang competed in the men’s 10m fixed plate simultaneous event, while Kim Gyeong-sim and Lee Hyang-sim participated in the women’s 10m fixed plate simultaneous event.

Lee Hyang-sim and Pyo Soyeon athletes received a silver medal in the women’s 3m elastic board simultaneous competition, demonstrating their skills and teamwork.

Additionally, Choi Wi-hyeon took third place in the men’s 10m stationary individual event, and Lee Hyang-sim took third place in the women’s 10m stationary individual event, rounding out the country’s impressive performance at the championships.
