Ryoko Tamura’s Historic Win
2000 (Heisei 12)Ryoko Tamura won the gold medal in the women’s 48 kg judo event at the Sydney Olympics.
Although she was expected to win gold medals at the 1992 Barcelona and 1996 Atlanta Olympics, she ended up with silver medals in both. However, in Sydney, she put pressure on herself to ”at least win gold” and finally achieved her goal.
Overcoming Past Disappointments
Tamura’s journey to the top was not without its setbacks. Despite being a strong contender in previous Olympics, she fell short of her goal. However, she persevered and continued to work towards her dream, ultimately achieving it in Sydney.
