Zheng Peipei Receives Lifetime Achievement Award at 61st Golden Horse Awards
Zheng Peipei, a celebrated Hong Kong filmmaker and martial arts actress, was honored posthumously with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 61st Golden Horse Awards. Her four children accepted the award on her behalf, expressing deep pride in their mother’s legacy.
Director Ang Lee, known for his collaboration with Zheng in “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon,” presented the award. He praised her as a martial arts icon who profoundly shaped the imagery of classical China. Lee acknowledged her versatility, noting her performances in various genres including art films and comedies. He described her working ethic, emphasizing her respect for directors and dedication to her craft.
Zheng passed away on July 17, 2023, in the United States due to illness. During the ceremony, her children shared their feelings of honor and sorrow, stating that if she were alive, she would have cherished this moment with them. They thanked fans and industry colleagues for their support and remembered her as a role model who embodied professionalism and kindness.
In an emotional speech, they raised the award and declared, “Mom, this is for you!” The audience was visibly moved, with many shedding tears at this heartfelt tribute to an esteemed artist and loving mother.
