The 2024 Wuhan Open has announced its direct qualifiers for this year’s singles main draw, featuring nine of the top ten female players in the world. Paris Olympic women’s singles champion Zheng Qinwen will lead the Chinese “Golden Flowers” to compete in the tournament.
The main draw boasts an impressive lineup, with seven Grand Slam women’s singles champions and four former world No. 1 players. The four Grand Slam women’s singles champions and runners-up this season, as well as the Paris Olympic women’s singles medalists, will all compete in Jiangcheng.
World No. 1 Swiatek will make her debut at the Wuhan Open, while two-time champion Sabalenka will return to the “blessed land”. These two top players are currently competing against each other in the WTA year-end finals standings, and their performance in Wuhan will affect the ownership of the top seed in the finals.
Zheng Qinwen, the gold medalist in women’s singles at the Paris Olympics, and “Golden Flower” Yuan Yue have entered the main draw based on their rankings. Zheng Qinwen has been ranked in the top ten in the world this season and has performed brilliantly. She is looking forward to achieving good results as a seeded player in her hometown for the first time. Yuan Yue also made a breakthrough this season, winning the first tour singles championship in her career at the WTA250 Austin Station.
The 2024 Wuhan Open will take place from October 5 to 13 at the Optics Valley International Tennis Center. The tournament will feature 106 exciting matches, with about 120 world-class female players competing for 1,000 points and a total prize of approximately 3.22 million US dollars.
