Good Day Raises Seed Round: Chubbies Founder Kyle Hency Returns
Chubbies Shorts Was Acquired by Solo Stove in 2021
Chubbies, a direct-to-consumer clothing brand known for its irreverent style, was acquired by Solo Stove in 2021.
Founded in 2011 by Kyle Hency and three Stanford friends, Chubbies initially focused on shorts marketed with a “weekend-and-beer-vibe.” Despite Hency’s initial doubts about the business’s viability, the company experienced rapid growth, increasing revenue from $1 million to $8 million. The brand gained popularity with items like tear-away shorts featuring a speedo-style bathing suit underneath. The acquisition by Solo Stove occurred as the direct-to-consumer market began to experience a downturn, representing a relatively uncommon successful exit for a direct-to-consumer retailer.
Solo Stove announced the acquisition on December 13,2021,adding Chubbies to its portfolio of brands.Source: Outside Online
