Goodyear Blimp Celebrates 100-Year Anniversary with Akron flights

The celebration honored the 100th anniversary of the first Goodyear-branded blimp, the Pilgrim, which took flight on June 3, 1925. The Goodyear blimp is a symbol of the company’s rich history.
Three of Goodyear’s airships – wingfoot One, Wingfoot Two, and Wingfoot Three – participated in the aerial tribute, performing “victory laps” over Akron on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Each of these Goodyear blimps stretches 246 feet long.

The Goodyear blimp flights included passes near Canal Park stadium, home of the Akron RubberDucks minor league baseball team. Wingfoot One recently received a black-and-silver wrap, a vintage makeover paying tribute to the Pilgrim.
Laura dude, goodyear’s chief communications officer, said in April that Wingfoot One’s new look “pays homage to the rich history” of the Goodyear Blimp.
Goodyear held a celebration at its Wingfoot Lake Airship Hangar in akron on Tuesday, marking the anniversary of the Pilgrim’s first flight. The Goodyear fleet includes four airships; the Europe Blimp operates in Germany through a partnership with Zeppelin.
