Google AI Mode Shortcut Android Search Widget
Google Search Widget Now Lets You Add an AI Mode Shortcut on Any Android device
Table of Contents
Following its initial appearance as a Pixel Launcher shortcut, Google is now rolling out the ability to add an AI Mode shortcut directly to the Google Search homescreen widget for all Android users. This convenient addition allows for immediate access to the fullscreen AI Mode experience, letting you dive straight into crafting your prompts without needing to open the full Google app.
The AI Mode widget shortcut first surfaced for some users in the Google app beta back in April. As then, it’s had a somewhat on-again, off-again availability, appearing and then disappearing for certain users. However, over the past few days, we’ve seen a much wider rollout of this shortcut for both beta and stable versions of the Google app, specifically with version 16.28.
You’ll find this new shortcut integrated into the latest redesign of the google Search bar widget. It appears as its own distinct circle, positioned to the right of the familiar voice microphone and Google Lens icons.
Setting Up Your AI Mode Widget Shortcut
Getting this handy shortcut onto your homescreen is straightforward.
- Long-press on your Google Search widget on your homescreen.
- Select Settings/Edit to access the Customize screen. Here, you’ll find options for Theme and Transparency.
- Navigate to Shortcuts.
- Choose “AI Mode” from the available options. It’s typically the second choice in the grid, appearing after ”None.”
Alternatively, you can access these customization options directly from the Google app’s Settings list.
For those using AI Mode on a non-Pixel device, adding this widget shortcut is arguably the quickest way to launch AI Mode directly from your homescreen.
Understanding the “AI Mode” Search Lab
It’s certainly worth noting that the appearance and integration of the AI Mode shortcut can also depend on whether you’re enrolled in the ”AI Mode” Search Lab. If you haven’t joined this experimental program, the top portion of your Google app might still display the older design. In this scenario, the AI Mode shortcut appears as a pill-shaped icon within the colorful carousel located beneath the main Search bar, rather than being a direct part of the bar itself.
if you’re looking for a sleeker, more integrated experience,we recommend considering enrollment in the Search Lab. This not only offers the updated design but also allows you to test other new features, such as Search Live, which provides real-time voice input capabilities.
