Expanding Access to AI Tools
Google has broadened teh availability of its AI Plus subscription plan to more than 40 countries, including Angola, Bangladesh, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Ghana, Indonesia, Kenya, Mexico, Nepal, Nigeria, Philippines, Senegal, Uganda, Vietnam, and Zimbabwe. This expansion aims to make advanced AI capabilities more accessible globally.
the plan initially launched in Indonesia earlier in September 2025,priced at Rp 75,000 (approximately $4.50 USD) per month. In most other markets, the cost is around $5 per month, with promotional discounts of 50% for the first six months available in select locations like Nepal and Mexico.
Benefits of AI Plus
Subscribers to the AI Plus tier gain access to Gemini 2.5 Pro, Google’s advanced AI model. The plan also unlocks a suite of creative tools, including flow, Whisk, and Veo 3 Fast for image and video generation.
Beyond creative tools, AI Plus provides enhanced features within Google’s AI research assistant, NotebookLM, and integrates AI capabilities directly into popular productivity apps like Gmail, Docs, and Sheets. The subscription also includes 200GB of cloud storage.
Competitive Landscape
This move by Google follows a similar strategy by OpenAI, which recently launched its sub-$5 chatgpt Go plan in Indonesia. Though,India, where OpenAI first debuted ChatGPT go,is notably absent from Google’s current list of supported countries.
Both Google and OpenAI offer a standard $20 per month subscription plan, but these new, lower-cost tiers demonstrate a clear effort to attract a wider user base in regions where a $20 monthly fee represents a meaningful financial commitment.
