Google Tests AI Audio Overviews in search Results
Updated June 14, 2025
Google is experimenting with AI-generated audio overviews in it’s search results. This feature, leveraging Google’s Gemini AI model, provides users with an alternative to reading through multiple links or AI-generated text summaries. Instead, two AI voices discuss and summarize the search results.
The audio overviews are an extension of Google’s notebooklm, which allows users to explore documents and notes using AI. The new search integration brings “fake AI podcasts” to a broader audience, offering a hands-free way to digest information.

Currently, the AI audio overviews are not widely available. Users must manually enable the feature through Google’s Search labs. Once activated, an embedded player appears in the search results, typically below the “People also ask” section. Users must click a button to generate the audio, which then creates a conversation between two AI voices summarizing the search results. The player includes a list of sources and options to control playback speed.
What’s next
It remains to be seen if google will roll out the AI audio overviews more broadly, but the test suggests a continued investment in AI-driven search experiences. The company is exploring new ways to present information and cater to users who prefer audio over text.
