The University System of Maryland (USM) is⁤ collaborating⁢ with Google ⁣to provide Marylanders with crucial job ⁤skills. ⁤The partnership brings Google Career Certificates and AI training to all 12 USM campuses, creating accessible⁢ pathways to growing career fields.This initiative aims to equip individuals entering the workforce⁣ or changing careers with up-to-date skills.

USM’s statewide ⁢reach, from ⁢the University of Maryland, College Park, to the University of ⁢Maryland Eastern⁣ Shore, allows for⁣ broad support across diverse communities. Students can now⁤ develop practical skills for⁤ high-demand jobs.

The collaboration includes⁣ job-ready training through Google Career Certificates,preparing students for careers in cybersecurity,data analytics,and project management in under six months,regardless ⁤of prior experiance. Foundational AI skills are also⁣ emphasized through the AI Essentials‍ course, teaching practical AI applications and responsible AI practices.⁤ Google.org is funding USM’s new AI in Education‍ Center‍ to research AI’s potential⁢ to enhance learning.Select USM campuses will offer academic credit for completing Google Career Certificates,with the university of Maryland Global Campus ⁣(UMGC) ‍offering up to 10 credits. Institutions will also have access to Google’s AI tools, such as gemini, already available at the University of Maryland, College Park, and the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.

Support⁣ for Military Students

The partnership extends ⁢opportunities to Maryland’s military ⁣community. USM institutions serve thousands of military learners annually, with ⁣six campuses recognized among the Best for ⁢Vets colleges. UMGC, serving over 60,000 military-connected learners, holds the ‍No. 1 ranking for primarily online ⁤universities. The initiative offers flexible,skills-based training to⁤ translate military experience into credentials.

Google.org⁤ is also supporting Student Veterans of America (SVA) with $4 million to help veterans⁣ nationwide, including those in Maryland, access google Career‍ Certificates and AI training. The funding supports⁢ SVA’s efforts to improve university services for⁣ student ⁤veterans and provide‍ career programming for over 15,000 transitioning service members.

Connecting Skills to chance

The goal⁣ is to help individuals acquire new skills and secure ‍employment.Google⁢ Career Certificate graduates gain access to job search⁣ resources,including an ⁤employer consortium of over ⁤150 companies like Booz Allen Hamilton,Siemens,and Google.

Globally, over one million‍ people⁤ have completed a Google career Certificate, with over 70% reporting positive career outcomes within six months, such as a new job, raise, or promotion.
