As of May 29, 2026, the update is rolling out to Android phones. The new workflow allows users to scan multiple pages at once, with Google Drive automatically splitting them into separate documents.

To improve the efficiency of the scanning process, Google has implemented duplicate detection. This feature ensures that users do not accidentally scan the same page multiple times during a session.

The update also includes a feature called Auto Best Frame, which is designed to ensure that the resulting scans are crisp and clear.

On-Device Processing and Privacy

The scanning and processing of these documents take place directly on the device. This local processing is intended to provide faster scan speeds compared to cloud-based processing.

Utilizing on-device processing also ensures that the scanning features remain available to users while they are offline. This approach is used to maintain user privacy by keeping the processing local to the hardware.
