Google is rolling out a new feature that connects WhatsApp directly with Gemini, its artificial intelligence assistant, allowing users to send messages through voice or text commands without opening the messaging app. The update enables a more direct interaction between the two platforms, according to information published by Google.
Expanding Gemini Beyond the Core Environment
The integration is part of a broader strategy by Google to turn Gemini into an assistant capable of interacting with external apps from a single environment. Users can execute everyday actions, like sending messages, using natural language, which reduces the need to switch between different applications.
The tool works from both the standalone Gemini application and when Gemini is used as the default assistant on compatible Android devices. To send a message, users must make a specific request using a natural language format, as detailed in reports from lavoz.com.ar.
Operating Voice and Text Commands on Android
The suggested format for sending a message requires a specific instruction structure. Users must state, Envía un WhatsApp a (Nombre del contacto) diciéndole (mensaje a enviar).
Gemini automatically identifies that the requested action corresponds to WhatsApp and takes the text indicated after the instruction as the content of the message. For the process to work correctly, the contact must be saved under that exact name in the device’s address book.
Users Must Speak Punctuation for Voice Dictation
When utilizing voice dictation, users must also speak expressions like punctuation marks to incorporate them into the text. Once the order is received, Gemini connects with WhatsApp and sends the message, provided that the integration between both applications is enabled on the device.
If the function does not appear available, Google recommends keeping applications updated and waiting for the rollout to reach the specific device. The update arrives alongside the launch of Gemini Agent, an assistant that coordinates various AI models and connects to the company’s tools.
Unlinking WhatsApp from the AI Assistant
The integration can also be deactivated for users who prefer that artificial intelligence does not interact with their messaging application. Google maintains the possibility of turning off the feature for those who prefer a complete separation between the AI assistant and messaging services.

To unlink the accounts, the user must open the Gemini application and tap the profile image located in the top right corner of the screen. Next, the user must access the Applications section, which is identified with a puzzle piece icon to show all connected tools.
Toggle Switch Controls Gemini Access to WhatsApp
Within that section, WhatsApp appears alongside an activation toggle switch. Disabling that option stops Gemini from accessing the messaging application, immediately unlinking the two tools.
Users can manage these settings at any time depending on whether they want to use natural language commands for external tasks or maintain separate app workflows.
