Google Meet Now on Android Auto, But Not for Work Accounts
- Google has begun rolling out Google Meet integration for Android Auto, bringing the company's video communication service to vehicle infotainment systems.
- While the feature expands the utility of the Android Auto platform, it arrives with a significant limitation: the service does not currently support work accounts or Work profiles.
- The Android Auto version of Google Meet is designed to minimize driver distraction by stripping away complex interface elements.
Google has begun rolling out Google Meet integration for Android Auto, bringing the company’s video communication service to vehicle infotainment systems. The rollout follows the recent release of a similar experience for Apple CarPlay, which Google announced and launched in early April 2026.
While the feature expands the utility of the Android Auto platform, it arrives with a significant limitation: the service does not currently support work accounts or Work profiles.
Functionality and Safety Restrictions
The Android Auto version of Google Meet is designed to minimize driver distraction by stripping away complex interface elements. Users can access a Scheduled tab
on the car’s display to view upcoming meetings on their calendar and join them directly from the dashboard.

To maintain safety standards, Google has implemented several strict constraints on how the app operates while the vehicle is in motion:
- The app skips the standard pre-call screen, dropping the user instantly into the meeting.
- Video is automatically turned off for all participants during the call.
- Only call information and basic controls are visible; presentations and other participants are not displayed.
- Advanced collaboration tools, including Hand Raise, Q&A, Polls, and chat, are disabled.
Regarding audio, users can mute their microphone during a call. Some reports indicate that the microphone may be automatically muted upon joining, depending on the size of the meeting.
Deployment and Technical Details
The rollout was first identified by Android Authority, where users reported seeing a pop-up notification within the Meet app stating that the service is now available on Android Auto.
Technical analysis suggests that the activation of this feature is controlled via a server-side component. Testing of Google Meet app versions v353.x and v354.x showed that the Android Auto support was not yet visible in those specific versions, indicating that the feature is being enabled gradually for specific users regardless of the app version installed.
For users who wish to access the disabled features such as polls or chat, they must safely park the vehicle and switch the interface back to their mobile device.
Market Context
The introduction of Google Meet to Android Auto brings the platform to parity with Apple CarPlay, which received the feature earlier in April 2026. However, the lack of support for work accounts is a notable gap, as a significant portion of Google Meet’s user base relies on the platform for professional communication.
Android Auto is a platform that integrates Android smartphones with a vehicle’s infotainment system, allowing compatible software applications to be displayed on the car’s screen for a more streamlined driving experience.
