Google Messages to Offer Custom Icons, Notification Snoozing

Google messages is set to roll out new features, including custom icon support for Rich Communication Services (RCS) group chats. This enhancement will allow Android users to personalize their group chat icons with photos stored on their devices or with illustrations provided by Google.
Along with custom icons, Google Messages is introducing a notification snoozing feature. Users will be able to temporarily mute notifications for specific chats,with options to snooze for one hour,eight hours,24 hours,or indefinitely. A clock icon will appear on the home screen and within the chat to indicate that notifications are snoozed. Users can also choose to receive notifications for mentions, even when snoozed.

To further improve user experience, google Messages will also feature RCS tags. These tags will identify contacts who have enabled RCS, differentiating them from SMS users. RCS users’ names will appear in a Material You shade, while non-RCS users will be shown in white. This distinction is more noticeable in dark mode.
