Google Messages August 2025 Features Rollout
Google Messages Gets a Gallery & camera Redesign with ‘Original Quality’ Sending
Google Messages is getting a notable update, merging its camera viewfinder and gallery for a streamlined experience. This redesign, coupled with the rollout of “Original quality” sending, promises to elevate how you share photos and videos with your contacts.Let’s dive into what’s new and how it will impact your messaging.
A Unified Camera & Gallery Experience
The old image picker in Google Messages was functional, but a bit clunky. It kept you in the conversation, which was good, but lacked the visual flow many users desire. Now, Google has combined the camera and gallery into one cohesive space.
when you tap the attachment icon to send a photo or video, you’ll immediately see 3-6 of your most recent shots. This makes it incredibly easy to quickly share memories without having to navigate through your entire gallery. Swipe up, and you’ll reveal more photos and videos, complete with “Folders” conveniently located at the bottom for organized access. Before hitting send, you can even “write a caption” directly within the interface.
Send Photos & Videos in ‘Original Quality’
Perhaps the biggest improvement is the introduction of “Original quality” sending. Previously, Google Messages compressed media to save data and ensure faster delivery. Now, you have a choice:
“HD” – Optimize for chat: This option prioritizes speed and data usage, sending quality media quickly while minimizing data consumption. It’s perfect for everyday sharing when file size isn’t a major concern.
“HD+” – Original quality: this setting sends your photos and videos at their full, original resolution. Ideal for sharing crucial moments you want to preserve in the highest possible detail. This feature has been in testing as november and is now becoming widely available to Google Messages users. It’s a welcome addition for anyone who values image and video fidelity.
This update represents a thoughtful evolution of Google Messages, focusing on both convenience and quality. You’ll find it easier then ever to capture, select, and share your visual experiences with friends and family.
